Restore Facial Volume Enjoying Voluma XC Benefits
Even with a diligent skincare regimen—like avoiding sun exposure and staying hydrated—aging inevitably takes its toll on our facial contours. At Becker Plastic Surgery in Philadelphia, we offer you a safe and effective alternative to surgery: Voluma XC. Administered by highly skilled professionals, this FDA-approved injectable filler provides an immediate lift, long-lasting volume, and a youthful rejuvenation that you’ll adore.
If you’ve noticed that volume loss in your facial tissues is leading to sagging cheeks, then you may be looking for a way to tighten and firm your skin. While surgical options like a full or mini-facelift can be ideal for facial rejuvenation, there are some effective non-surgical treatments as well, such as injectable fillers. If you’re not certain about undergoing surgery, a skin-firming injection such as Juvéderm Voluma XC with Dr. Daniel Becker in New Jersey or Philadelphia can help to temporarily lift tissues in the cheek and along the jawline.
What is Voluma XC?
Voluma XC is a Juvéderm brand injectable product that fills in cheek hollows to lift sagging skin and add firmness to the facial tissues. Juvéderm makes a range of hyaluronic acid gel fillers that are smooth and hold water at the injection site to firm up sagging skin.
Over time, this cushioning also helps build up collagen in the site to increase the firmness of the skin. This effect can last for up to two years after a Voluma XC treatment.
Voluma XC is sold by the syringe to cosmetic professionals only. This product is not recommended around the eyes or near the lips. The volume provided by this product is ideal for the mid-face and is FDA-approved for that purpose.
How Does Voluma XC Work?
The Voluma XC gel is injected into the hollows of the cheeks to replace lost volume. Depending on the amount of sagging, you may require more than one syringe or more than one treatment to reach your goals. Once the Voluma XC gel is in place, your body will initiate its healing processes and promote new collagen development.
Hyaluronic acid is a sugar that occurs naturally in the body, which is why the product will break down over time. However, this gel can greatly improve the firmness of your skin for up to two years and reduce concerns about drooping tissue in your cheeks and along your jawline.
Voluma XC Preparation and Recovery
The risks involved with injectable fillers are quite low. Because Voluma XC is formulated for deeper injection than many other fillers, however, you may be at a higher risk of bruising. There may be a bit of discomfort at the injection site as well.
In the time leading up to your treatment, follow any medication restrictions that you receive during your consultation. In addition, take the time prior to your injections to rest up, eat plenty of fresh foods that are high in antioxidants, and get quality rest.
After your treatment, do your best to avoid sunlight for a while. Consider investing in a wedge pillow that will help you stay on your back during the first few nights after the injections. While the risk of bruising is very small, turning on your side in your sleep may contribute to swelling and bruising.
Your Voluma XC Consultation
If you’re taking any prescription medications, supplements, or are on a regular dose of over-the-counter pain medications, be sure to bring this information to your consultation. You may need to cut back on some of these medications prior to your injections to cut down the risk of bruising or swelling after your treatment.
Your consultation is the time to discuss any and all concerns and goals about your appearance. If you have long struggled with the size of your nose, or if aging skin has you feeling less than confident about going out into the world, bring these concerns to your cosmetic professional.
You deserve to be confident in your appearance. Bring your notes and discuss your ideas with your surgeon.

Complementary Procedures to Voluma XC
Voluma XC is formulated to firm the tissues in the mid-face. It shows up along the jawline but will not affect other aspects of your appearance. To complement this procedure, you may also choose to get:
- Additional dermal fillers or Botox in the forehead grooves
- A chemical peel to brighten the skin around the eyes
- Microdermabrasion to brighten skin and vacuum away toxins
You may need to schedule multiple appointments for multiple therapies. A chemical peel is also probably best done on its own. Microdermabrasion and Hydrafacial can be done over a lunch break and with minimal downtime.
Chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and Hydrafacials are all non-invasive treatments. They may remove dead skin cells, but they don’t pierce the skin. If you’re at all anxious about an invasive treatment, one of these therapies may actually be a great first treatment to help you build confidence and peace of mind.

Faqs about Voluma XC
As with any treatment that pierces the skin, there is a slight risk of bacterial transfer and infection. Additionally, poorly injected products can cause lumps and bumps under the skin. Working with a skilled professional at our Becker plastic surgery offices will reduce these risks.
You may need to reduce some medications prior to the treatment. Your skin will be cleaned and a topical numbing agent may be applied. Any aftercare requirements will be fully explained during your consultation.
Voluma XC treatment will not take more than 60 minutes. Depending on the amount of sagging tissue to be treated, you may need more than one treatment.
Most people who undergo this therapy see the results immediately. The tissue will firm up further over time as your body builds collagen around the injection site.
Because this product is injected more deeply into your tissues than other fillers, it’s a good idea to leave the skin alone for at least 24 hours. Take some time off, get some rest and let any soreness dissipate.
The results from your Voluma XC therapy can last up to two years.
