Over time, you may notice laugh lines and wrinkles that appear seemingly out of nowhere. Forehead creases known as glabellar lines or those horizontal “frown lines” that show up when you’re thinking, concentrating or scowling, can suddenly seem permanent. If you’re ready to ease the wrinkles that make you look like you’re constantly scowling, contact Becker Plastics to learn more about Jeuveau, also called NEWTOX.

What Is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is in the same product family as Botox. It’s one of several botulinum toxin A products on the market, designed to paralyze the muscles underneath frown lines and other dynamic wrinkles, leaving a smooth surface. While Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002 for cosmetic use on multiple wrinkle types, Jeuveau is currently only approved for glabellar lines.

How Is Jeuveau Used?

Jeuveau is injected directly into the muscles underneath unwanted forehead lines, limiting their activity and making them temporarily unable to create deep creases. This smooths the skin and rejuvenates the face.

One of the reasons that botulinum toxin A products work as well as they do is that aging skin loses firmness. As your skin loses firmness, you may notice drooping, wrinkling, and creases.

Any area of your face that has built up strong muscles, such as your forehead or around your mouth, will be a spot where looser skin will fall into the creases created by those muscles. Smile lines, frown lines, and laugh lines are caused by skin that no longer has the strength to stay out of those creases.

Jeuveau results last several months. If you love the results, you can continue to come in for touch-up treatments!

Preparing for Your Jeuveau Injections

Jeuveau can be injected into clean skin. The treatment will not take a great deal of your time, but you may notice some redness or swelling at the injection site, so you may prefer to go home after your treatment, rather than returning to your daily activities immediately. The decision to use any form of botulinum toxin A will require a thorough consultation so you are fully aware of any risks or concerns.

Risks of Jeuveau Treatment

The risks of using Jeuveau are quite minimal. However, if you have a known allergy to human serum albumin or have had an unpleasant reaction to botulinum toxin A, you’re likely not a good candidate for this treatment. Those who are prone to bruising or bleeding may be able to tolerate Jeuveau but should probably plan to stay home for a day or two while any inflammation and bruising settle down.

Jeuveau Recovery Considerations

Your skin will be carefully cleaned prior to your injections to help prevent infection. Additionally, it’s a good idea to avoid touching the site after your injections, so applying makeup to your forehead after Jeuveau should be avoided. If at all possible, try to leave the area alone for 24 hours. You will also want to avoid lying down after your injections for at least four hours.

Take a self-care day in your home! This is an ideal time to treat yourself to a new book, a cup of tea or coffee, and a little quiet. While you should avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after your treatment, you can do some light housework or put on a hat and enjoy a walk around your neighborhood as long as the hat band doesn’t rub on the injection site.

In the lead-up and recovery from your Jeuveau treatment, consider changing up your diet to boost your collagen levels. Root vegetables, from beets to sweet potatoes to carrots, are high in hyaluronic acid. Citrus fruits, broccoli, and berries can all boost your Vitamin C intake, which is critical for collagen absorption.

Aloe products, including edible aloe supplements, are another wonderful way to boost collagen production and reduce tiny lines and wrinkles on thinning skin. Try a ginseng tea to help you reduce the signs of aging overall, and focus on a diet high in antioxidants to help your body shed the toxins that cause skin damage over time.

Your Jeuveau Consultation At Our Offices

When you’re ready to say goodbye to those frown lines, we’re here for you! Schedule a consultation with one of our physicians so you can best understand what the treatment entails, any risks you need to consider, and how long your Jeuveau injections will last. During this consultation, you’ll get instructions on what to do to prepare for your injections, aftercare considerations, and when you can get back to your regular activities.

Patient Reviews

Dr. Lozada is fantastic and so is this entire team. This was my first medical office visit during the pandemic, and their protocols made me feel safe and at ease. This was also my first time getting facial injections – Dr. Lozada went through every brand and every approach to treatment, and let me know why he was doing what he was doing along the way. Highly recommend!

Complementary Procedures With Jeuveau

While you’re addressing forehead lines, consider other therapies to brighten the rest of your facial skin. For example, you may want to consider collagen injections to plump out any lines that appear around your mouth, or an invigorating Hydrafacial to freshen your skin.

Another option to brighten your skin overall is to get a micro-peel. This simple technique uses glycolic acid to remove the very top layer of skin. Your skin will be refreshed and firmer in a very short time.

Most of these procedures can be done over your lunch break and you can take the afternoon off to relax.

Jeuveau Faqs

Does Jeuveau hurt?

Your skin will be cleansed and numbed prior to the injections. The needle will not go in very far. You should not feel anything during your Jeuveau treatment, though the topical numbing agent may feel cool.

How long will the results last?

You should get at least three months of a nice, smooth forehead. Some people find the injections last as long as six months, depending on your metabolism.

How long does it take to start working?

You should see initial results within 72 hours of your injections and the full results in two weeks. If you’re not fully satisfied in two weeks, a second injection may be necessary to fully immobilize the deeper muscles.

Is there a risk of contamination?

Jeuveau products, like many Botox and dermal filler products, are sold by the unit. Each of these units is a “one and done” product, so there is no risk of contamination. Our offices are kept clean enough for surgery and your skin will be cleansed prior to your injection. Your risk of any form of infection is extremely low.
